about

Manchester UK based band Pearl Divers is the brain child of writer, singer and guitarist Carl Lingard.

His initial work under the Pearl Divers brand was the impressive EP “The Boy Who Won The World” (2009) which was a solo effort. Deciding to take his work live he formed a trio with Mike Leigh (ex The Fall) and John “Monty” Montague on bass, following some early rehearsals the line-up was expanded with Tony Gilbody on keyboards and Jeff Black on guitar and MIDI instruments. High profile gigs at Night and Day in Manchester, the Salford Music Festival and supporting Martin Bramah’s Factory Star, were followed by the addition of Ben “Spilla” Doherty on vocals/rap, and a more urban/soul direction away from the initial indie feel of the material. Several attempts to record an initial album, and the addition of other vocalists, including Danielle “MzDee” Carter, lead to the creative differences emerging between band members regarding the change in musical direction. Leigh left to join The Blimp, and, Black. Montague and Carter formed Positronik. Lingard put Pearl Divers on hold for a few years.

Roll onto to 2014 and Lingard decided to try again with the Pearl Divers project. He recruited Gareth Johnson on guitar and Paul Greenhow on drums and convinced Jeff Black to rejoin the band, this time on bass guitar. Lingard’s desire to work with a female vocalist was realised when Nathalie Hayley joined. Lingard had been hard at work on new material which was not released but some tracks appeared on Charity Albums for German Shepherd Records and the band played live around Greater Manchester.

Further personnel changes over the last few years bring us to current the Pearl Divers line-up which comprises

Carl Lingard - Vocals, Guitar
Brandon Couper- Guitar
Tony Shep - Bass
David Robson - Drums
Pierce Burr - Keyboard
Debbie Allen - Vocals

This EP is the first official release by Pearl Divers

Track Name: Sunshine
Falling on my face my face again
Tryin to get with you.
Chasing after fantasies.
It get's me through.

The feelings in my head keep spinning round.
And I don't ever dream I'm comin down.
You got me going blind.

Give a little sunshine,
What you do and what you say.
All I wanna do.
Give a little sunshine,
You give to me everyday.
When I see you.

The feelings in my head keep spinning round.
And I don't ever dream I'm comin down.
You got me going blind.

Give me little peaches,
And I'm giving cream...of Manchester.
Dirty situations.
What you plan for me.

What you do and what you say you give to me everyday.
What you do and what you say you give to me everyday.
Track Name: Smoking Gun
When we were young,
We wrote three words
Graffitied it "I was here".
The rusting doors, the peeling walls,
The pages of the world.

Straight,
Between the ears
:ad lib:

The smoking gun,
The drinking games,
Our two fingers to everyone.
The future held, between our lips,
Our present left to them.

Straight,
Between the ears
:ad lib:

And part of me,
Is trapped within,
A labyrinth that documents,
A paper-chase of references,
That keep me in my place.

And you, and I
Curators of the past.
And us and them,
It never would have lasted.
And those three words,
Oh I was there.
Was that my friend,
Our finest hour?
Was that my friend,
Our finest hour?
And in the end,
God only knows
Track Name: Waterfall
We've had our troubled times.
Some day we'll find it.
One life,
Spread your wings.
One life, one life in the end.

Seems to say so much,
But doesn't do, doesn't do enough.

In spite of you I ride the waterfall
Remind me, cos I don't remember.
I've hated, but now I get the plan,
It only, needs a reason.

There is a reason,
In spite of everything.
So please remind me.
I don't remember.
Now I get the plan.
Ride the waterfall,
Ride the waterfall,
Ride the Waterfall.

Farewell fair weather friends,
Looks like we traded.
Well who wins in the end?
Who wins, who wins, in the end?

Seems to say so much,
But doesn't do, doesn't do enough.

In spite of you I ride the waterfall
Remind me, cos I don't remember.
I've hated, but now I get the plan,
It only, needs a reason.

There is a reason,
In spite of everything.
So please remind me.
I don't remember.
Now I get the plan.
Ride the waterfall,
Ride the waterfall,
Ride the Waterfall.

There is a reason
In spite of everything.
So please remind me
I don't remember
Now I get the plan.
Ride the waterfall,
Ride the waterfall,
Ride the waterfall.
